There is no background or shot before that - this is ONE picture (thats the beauty of lightpainting)

Congratulation for the DD, it is well deserved in my opinion and I really have nothing add than what was already said: clever concept and well-executed, indeed.

hahaha this is so awesome! How did you do this? I've seen my friends play with their camera and write something with light, but to make an action stick figure and it doesn't seem blurry?

AWESOME

If your camera is stable on a tripod then everything should be sharp.
If you use a smaller flashlight you get smaller lines of course. Basically its the same as your friends did :)

How do you do this? I am studying to be a graphic designer, im only a freshman, and this is cool, could you link me a tutorial or try to explain how this is created? Thanks!

You should find lots of tutorials when you search for lightpainting / light graffitti on google.

This was done with a very bright LED lamp. DSLR on full manual mode. I have a ir-remote so I start exposure - draw the stuff and immediately stop the exposure afterwards (so the background won't get too bright). If it is still too bright when you draw fast - you could use a grey filter. But always: The brighter the scene the brighter your flashlight has to be.

If you have some more specific questions ... I will answer them :D

Fantastic! I don't usually see one where the artist is almost invisible, but all I can see of you is a hint of arm. That looks like a fairly bright light too, you're obviously not just ad libbing with a cell phone here, that seems more like a proper flashlight. All in all, a solid piece of art!
